Security terms, in plain language
Data security comes with its own vocabulary. Use this page as a quick reference for the terms on our Security page, from encryption and access control to GDPR, HIPAA, and international data transfers. Each entry links to the page where you can read the full detail. Looking for contract, refund, or privacy terms? See the Legal Center glossary.
Access Control
Limits on who can open your documents. ABC uses least-privilege, role-based access, so a translator only reaches the files needed for your project, and that access is removed once the work is done. See Security.
Attorney-Client Privilege
The protection that keeps communication between a lawyer and client confidential. ABC handles legal documents under protocols that respect this privilege. See Security.
CCPA
The California Consumer Privacy Act, a state law that gives California residents rights over their personal information. See Security.
CPRA
The California Privacy Rights Act, which expands the privacy rights and company duties set out by the CCPA. See Security.
Data Breach
Unauthorized access to protected data. ABC works to contain and investigate any incident and notifies affected users where the law requires. See Security.
Encryption
Scrambling data so only authorized parties can read it. ABC protects documents with AES-256 encryption and secures them in transit with SSL. See Security.
GDPR
The General Data Protection Regulation, the European Union law that governs how personal data is collected and protected. See Security.
HIPAA
A United States health-privacy law. ABC handles medical translations under HIPAA confidentiality and retention requirements. See Security.
International Data Transfer
Moving data across borders. ABC uses safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses and encryption when data crosses countries. See Security.
Multi-Factor Authentication
An extra login step beyond a password, such as a code by SMS, email, or an authenticator app, used to protect account access. See Security.
Standard Contractual Clauses
Contract terms approved by the European Commission that let personal data be transferred internationally in a compliant way. See Security.
Subprocessor
A vetted third party or team member that processes data on ABC behalf, under confidentiality and security duties. See Security.
